BRICK MASONRY
Construction of brick units which are bonded together with mortar
CHARACTERISTICS OF BRICK
- Bricks should have perfect edges, copper colored, free from crack
- Clear ringing sound when struck
- Hard, average weight should be 3-3.5 kg
- It should not break when fall from 1 m height
- Low thermal conductivity & Should be sound proof
- The crushing strength of brick must be 3.5 N/mm2
- Stretchers: A brick laid with its long, narrow side exposed
- Header: A brick laid with its short side exposed.
- Three-quarter bat – stretching: A brick cut to three-quarters of its length and laid with its one narrow side exposed.
- Three-quarter bat – heading: A brick cut to three-quarters of its length,
- and laid with its short side exposed.
- Half bat: A brick cut in half across its length.
- Queen closer: A brick cut in half down its width.
- Quarter bat: A brick cut to a quarter of its length.
- Three-quarter queen closer: A queen closer cut to three-quarters of its length
- King closer: A brick with one corner cut away, leaving one header face at half its standard width
